The President of Cape Town Rotary Club Myra Goldenbaum opened the "Aids Education Centre" at the Mvula independant School in Nyanga this afternoon. The project was a joint effort of the Swiss Rotary Club Frauenfeld and Cape Town Club who raised the money to build it and will be helping the school to staff the unit as well.
The function was attended by Pieter Dirk Uys who spoke to the children about the importance of learning about AIDS and its drastic consequences, and that they must feel free to come to the councillors with their problems, as they were all the most special people in the world.
The gathering was attended by Nceba Jalamba who is the coordinator for the department of education on HIV & Aids education, he said how important these centres are becoming in the fight against HIV & Aids, and he hoped that this was not the last one and that more centres would be created by Voluntary Organisations such as Rotary.
Florence (Nightingale) the principal of the School thanked Rotary for all they had done for the School over the years, citing the Library, Blanket making Scheme, the on going school feeding scheme and the vegetable garden as projects that they had assisted with over the years. She emphasised how important that this unit was going to be to the well being of the school in the future.
